Seductress, 2000
The digital image is compiled from scanned archive material from ethnographic and anthropological museums in Helsinki and Stockholm. The visual elements show the visual ideals used to attract a partner in different cultures around the world, with a focus on indigenous people. The work has a pair, "Seducer”. The two works were premiered at the Finnish Museum of Natural History's exhibition “Kiima” in Helsinki in 2000. The Seducers have toured exhibitions at e.g. Luontotalo Arkki in Pori and the Natural History Museum in Porvoo. Seductress is a unique piece.
The work, slightly larger than a human in size, is a digital photo collage produced with mixed media. The image is a lambda print (digital photo) mounted on a kapa board, with painted glass on top. The acrylic color has been painted on the inside of the glass, to protect it from wear. The work is framed by professionals in robust black-painted wooden frames. The signature is on the back of the work.
